is one of many, many clubs in the Toronto

Is Toastmasters for
me?
According to our
long-standing Sergeant-at-Arms, Aart Vandermeer, there are two kinds
of people who decide to join Toastmasters:
1. The ones who have
something to say, and need some help to let it out, and
2. The ones who would
rather not say anything ever (!) and they would actually prefer to slide
under the banquet table at wedding if anyone dared call on them to say two
words!
Which one are you? The
first? The second?
Every single one of us,
on the executive, in the club, new to the club, we all took the leap (and
the net appeared!) and we are so glad we did. Without a doubt, everyone
gets so much more out of the training and the community of well-wishers than
they ever expected.

What is the Benefit?
The atmosphere of our
club is a friendly-supportive environment where you get have, what I
consider to enjoy one of the most rare gifts you will get anywhere in this
world: permission to make mistakes--and nothing bad will happen! You get to
keep your job, your spouse, your pride, your freedom to express, and an
opportunity to grow at your own pace while helping others to do the same.
Grosvenor is a
"dinner club" that meets once every two weeks in the evening from
6:00pm to about 8:30pm. It sounds like the length of a night school course
and it is. For the cost of a single session with a voice-coach, or a
"shyness coach" or an assertiveness trainer, you can improve your
speaking and leadership skills over the course of a year, by using the
Toastmasters numerous books and materials-all supported by fellow
Toastmasters.

It has been my pleasure to folow in the footsteps
of other Grosvenor Toastmasters members and go beyond the club, to be active at the
Area, Division and District levels. My new experiences have been rewarding plus I
have met many other Toastmasters and made new friends. My wish for each of you this Toastmaster year
is to share these experiences. My goal for the coming year is to
help you Go Beyond the Club!
